"Building bridges for Economic Growth and Development in Honolulu"

"I believe in being out in the community...talking with the individuals, finding out what the needs of the community are...educating the public in government process...giving the individuals the knowledge to get involved."

  • Rod Tam believes in:
  • Stimulating the economy in Hawaii
  • Increasing the productivity and efficiency of government services
  • Finding solutions for increased affordable housing while understanding the needs of our senior citizens and our homeless.

After 32 years in elected office and a tough few months. I’m still here to support our Island home.  I’m proud of being the 5th generation of my family on Oahu.  I’m PROUD of our City & County!

Yes, our City has issues,
The need for economic development, affordable housing & efficient transportation and the fear of increasing taxes.  However-- I believe in the city’s ability to rebuild itself and regain its status.

Hard economic times are not the time to raise taxes or implement furloughs We need stimulus partnerships between the government, the private sector & small business as well as focusing on ways to increase consumer spending.

Also, there is a law that states that “Mandated government services by the State to the Counties must be reimbursed”—but currently only the ambulance services are reimbursed…. an estimated $237 million plus-could have been collected this year. We need to get reimbursed.

Regarding affordable housing, I would not sell the city land, but only sell the buildings on that land, as a way to keep control over affordable rentals.  I’m running for MAYOR because there is still much I would like to do for the City and I believe in making those differences together.

You know, my family has lived on Oahu for 5 generations and as far as I’m concerned—The City & County of Honolulu is one of the best places to live in the world.  I’ve campaigned & canvassed through-Pearl City, Wahiawa, the North Shore, the Windward side,  Waimanalo, the East Side, Aina Haina and the Leeward side Nanakuli, Kapolei.  I’ve been reminded daily of the unique charm of our Island home.  We have some the best and the brightest minds living right here. We have a wealth of opportunity that is underutilized. We can build our City’s economy through international investments and trade. There are many ways to bring money into our city. Such a corner stone could be the APEC Conference in 2011, that will be held for the first time in Honolulu- which would bridge the gap between the East & West--once again opening our Island as a gateway for commerce.

We do not need to raise taxes to support this City—There are many opportunities available that we must explore.  We have much to do to build this Island’s economy, boost our City workers morale and still preserve the “Island way”.

Despite the allegations and accusations toward me, I am be here for our Island and it’s community, NO MATTER WHAT!  We will bring people together to build a better future for our children and our  grandchildren. We can do it- we can make positive change happen together.

TAM’s KEY areas of concern

  • Appoint an apolitical Police Commission
  • We could have collected and approximate $237 MILLION PLUS in reimbursements for State mandated city services like police and fire
  • Long term road maintenance programs
  • Long term maintenance programs for parks & recreation
    • INVOLVE CITY PARKS & REC  EMPLOYEES IN THE SOLUTIONS FOR PARKS
  • RAIL
    • Use the RAIL Stations to increase business and jobs
  • EFFICIENT TRANSPORTATION
    • Increase the availability of busses especially during rush hour
    • Evaluate the routes and add stops where necessary ex. Kalihi and the Windward routes.
